Why are the queues in Canteen B always so long.

Canteen B used to be a no man's land, a place the starving went to when they couldn't afford the time to eat proper meals. It was helped by the fact that the food really sucked, and the only schools it served were NBS, CS and EEE.

Now, there's a problem. The food in Canteen B has actually improved, and two more schools have sprouted up in the vicinity, SPMS and HSS, which means the queues at lunchtime are so long they stretch all the way beyond the area designated for queues and into the spaces between tables, and on some extreme occasion to the steps leading down to another section of Can B.

On many occasions I have cut queues because I did not realise that there was another half of the queue snaking away at the tables, so I just joined in at the end of the queue in the queuing area, gathering quite a few dirty looks in the process. However, CS people are known for their thick skin, and if you ever catch me doing that, I'm just putting my skills into practice.

I want to ask NTU one question. Since the North Spine is exactly the same size as the South Spine, and the South Spine has grown considerably in population with the addition of two new faculties, why is Canteen B still so damn small? It's an old complaint, but I'd like to point out to NTU that engineers are not the only people who need to be fed.

The thing Can B really needs is fast food, because the queues mean that we spend more time queuing than actually eating, and we are being forced to pay extra for takeaways because there simply isn't space to eat in the canteen. So NTU conceeds. They give us some "fast-food". You know what they give us? Mr Bean and Each-a-cup. The engineers get Subway, Old Chang Kee, pizza and sushi and we get pancakes and bubble tea.

I don't see the logic here. For 3 bucks in Can A, I get a full meal. In Can B, I'm unable to queue for the stalls, so I have to settle for two pancakes and a cup of soya bean milk for the same price. I'm really sick of eating overpriced pancakes where I actually have to search for the fillings, and I can remember the taste of the soya milk before I drink it.

However you know what's more amazing? The more amazing fact is, despite the super long queues at just about every other stall driven out of desperation, people still avoid the Beijing Fengwei stall. People would rather go hungry than eat there. I think the stallowners of that stall should seriously start considering an alternative career.
