Sometimes you think you've seen pretty much everything that Youtube has to offer, then something comes by that makes you go wow.
I'm been watching videos by a young jazz pianist called Scott Bradlee hailing from New York City, where he does mashups of modern songs reimagined in the swing and big band style. Yes, with a backing band that uses the big band staples of a trombone, a saxophone, a double bass, brush-like drumsticks, smooth clarinet runs, and a piano comping along to recreate a sound that would not be out of place in the New York of 1920. And the results are really amazing. It helps that they all dress the part and the vocalist sings really well.
They covered Justin Bieber's Beauty and a Beat here but I forgive them because they make it way better than the original. KurtHugoSchneider and Alex Goot did a cover too featuring Chrissy Costanza who is incredibly easy to look at, but musicality wise it has nothing on this cover.
The vocalist is amazing.
And here's the kicker. They covered Psy's Gentleman too, and I love everything about it, from the singer to the backing band to the two ladies dancing at the side.
