Superhero overdose.

There are way too many superhero flicks nowadays. In the past, it was just Spiderman. Everyone fell in love with Peter Parker because he was an average guy with a penchant for kissing upside down. Then the X-Men burst onto the scene. Then Daredevil. Soon Superman, Hellboy and the Hulk joined in. And the not-so-fantastic 4 known only because Jessica Alba was in it. It should have been renamed The Fantastic One. And just when you thought they had exhausted the list, out came a spandex guy called Batman, followed by a metal guy called Iron Man.

Thinking we wanted more, these films grew sequels. I mean, one or two superhero flicks are fine. But when the movie scene starts getting flooded with them, it all gets a little old. Basically, all superhero films have the same premise. Guy (notice the protagonist is never female?) has a superpower, and goes through a journey of self-discovery. In between, you throw in a pretty female love interest and an evil villian whose's job is to look bad, laugh evily and basically get his ass whooped by the hero. But of course.

I've basically learnt to recognise all these superhero films for what they really are. They are really teen-boy fantasies. I mean, unlimited power, the adultation of everyone around you, and you get a pretty girl to boot. The last part is the most important, but the first two would be nice too.

All the villians also seem to have the same fatal flaw. Instead of getting the job done, they talk and talk some more. The world would have been destroyed much earlier if these villians were mute. Sometimes, you wonder if the villians are trying to talk their foes to death.

I think I have an explanation for that though. These villians, by their nature of being superduper evil, are not well liked by others. Hence nobody wants to listen to them. So when they get the chance to have a listener, even if its the their mortal enemy, they must talk as much as they can while he remains comatose.

I think these bad guys really just need a little love. And I need to stop wasting money on superhero flicks.
