Way to go Mediacorp! Just when you thought that their biggest production in years had finally come to an end, they produced an extended version of the final chapter.
Just trust Mediacorp to decide that hey, I've just finished the best thing I've ever done, but maybe I should just add a final touch so that it will end with a bang. But the problem is, Mediacorp is really bad with endings.
It didn't matter that they had achieved the highest ratings of any Mediacorp production in years. When they could have left it on a high, they decided to bow to commercial demands and produce this stupid lameass ending to milk more commercial dollars in advertising.
But guess what? Unsurprisingly, they totally fucked it up. Just watch this video and you'll know what I mean. Since when does a show attempt to explain its ending to viewers? What are you going to explain next? Why you decided to cast Jeanette Aw as Yueniang rather than Fiona Xie because Fiona would have fit the kebaya a little too well?
It would have been a lot better if they had shown what the production of the entire drama was like in a special feature, along with commentaries by the cast members, rather than this lameshit excuse of an alternate ending that promised so much and ended up becoming a cheesy excuse to put a smiling Chen Xi and Yueniang together like it was a happily ever after.
Oh shit you Mediacorp. Just when I had decided to give you ten points out of ten for making something drama worthy, you show me why my faith is misplaced. Here's a thumbs up sign for you.
