The week in pictures

This week has been absolutely crazy and people have been bugging me to update and stuff. I've wanted to but dealing with jetlag, nonstop travelling everyday and the ridiculously cold weather is actually pretty tiring. Not to mention that I miss Singaporean food immensely. But all in all, I wouldn't trade this experience for anything else.

I've experienced all manner of situations since I came here that I could never have even imagined back home. It makes you appreciate Singapore more, but most importantly, it makes you appreciate life more. Its hard to believe that its just been a week. And what a crazy week its been.

I'm not going to bullshit and say that its been all smooth sailing, in fact my first two days here were downright miserable because I was tired, and I couldn't settle in because of some bugger who was holding my hall keys, forcing the school to allocate me emergency accomodation. The last thing you really want to realise after travelling 7000 miles with almost 40 kg of luggage is that the school has no hall room for you. Especially if you're already paying for it.

I spent my first night in some weird room, and the second on the floor of my friend's hall. In addition, I had no way of calling home without incurring massive charges and I had no internet connection, so I couldn't even tell anyone about how much my life sucked. And I'm quite sure nobody in Singapore was going to believe me anyway, since everyone is deadset on insisting that I am going to have a good time. Yes that's true but only after I get my hall. Hurhur.

But I have to be thankful for the fact that I have 5 fantastic friends from NTU here with me who have become my extended family. And for my new flatmates who baked me a cupcake with my name on it the first night I moved into my new hall, and who have constantly made the effort to talk to me so I feel more at home. Its amazing cos they are all angmohs and they probably don't even understand what i'm saying half the time cos my accent is just so different, although I understand them perfectly. And lest this starts sounding like an acceptance speech, I shall stop now.

And now, the obligatory picture posts. Don't ask me why the timestamps are so weird cos its Singapore time.

London - I've only visited Oxford Street so far so I don't have a lot of pictures of it yet. Will upload more over the upcoming weeks.

Outside King's Cross station.

Inside King's Cross station, heading towards the Tube. They have all types of shops at the side, including a Marks & Spencers, which is very common here.

Waiting for the Tube to go to Oxford Street. No its not smelly, as some people have told me the Tube is. It is definitely crowded though.

Oxford Street. The Orchard Road of London.

Niketown and Topshop on its right. When you're in London, the shops are 3 storeys high with basements and damn huge.

Me having a little naughty fun with British telephones. Ooh la la.

Saw this while walking towards Regents Park from Oxford Street. The Singapore Government should consider using a statue of Harry Lee as a road divider in the future.

Welwyn Garden City

The town centre is built around this garden. All around the garden are shops that sell everything ranging from clothes to computer games.

The part of the garden which commemorates the founder of the town.

Me, Qianqi and Jocelyn. I know the green shopping bag is an eyesore, but my photoshopping skills are not good enough to change it into a white shopping bag.

Luton Town

Me, Qianqi and Xin Ling on a night out at Luton Town. I've bought new shoes already. This country rocks for shopping. In case you're wondering, it was very cold. We were dying before we took this shot because it was cold, wet and windy.

The town centre, the background of the last picture. See the beautiful blue clock tower? That's about the best thing in this place.

Watford

Is the weather always like this in England? Yes.

The local church. All the towns have local churches that look like this, or some older variant.

The shopping district of Watford.

The church from another angle.

The town centre. Those black dots in the fountain are actually ducks. Like real ducks. Its amazing cos the only ducks Singaporeans see are those in roast meat hawkers.

REAL DUCKS! Like for real.

The NTU gang of 6. Dominic, me, Jocelyn, Michelle, Xin Ling and Qianqi. This was taken in a Chinese restaurant in Watford where we had lunch.
