If you've ever wondered whether you were cut out to run a capitalist venture like McDonald's, you can try this game. It's a flash simulation, but it sure is addictive.http://www.mcvideogame.com/game-eng.html
Inadvertently, It also showcases some of the unsavory aspects of running McDonald's, but that is half the fun.
Here's the feedlot. It looks like something from SimCity. You have cows, and you have pastures. However, you can also raze forests and incur the wrath of environmentalists, or if you're an ass like me you can raze the village instead. Because I can, and I need the land to raise cattle for my Big Macs. But mostly because I can.Alternatively, you can bribe the mayor for 10000 bucks to use his land, which is supposed to grow grain to feed the villagers. Oh the evil!
Here's the factory. It's a mad juggle of trying to balance the amount of feed and the number of cattle eating it. Once in a while you get mad cows or diseased ones and you have to kill them with a flamethrower. No seriously, that's how they get killed. You can also do stuff to the feed like add hormones, industrial waste etc. As long as no one is any the wiser. It gives you feed when there isn't any. And you need to fatten them cattle to get patties for them big Macs.
Here's the restaurant. It's the most boring place really, it just generates money. When you have disgruntled employees, you can reward them with a badge, discipline them, or fire them. I say just fire the bastards because its the most effective way, as you'll soon find out.
And finally, here's the boardroom. It's the place where you can do some interesting things. You can run up to 4 advertising campaigns, to increase the number of customers you get, or do "PR".PR is basically bribing different groups of people from the health authorities to nutritionists. I call it "Defence against the Dark Arts", the Dark Arts being the hoodoos of hippy groups and tree huggers." Also known as strikes, protests and demonstrations, they reduce the number of customers you have. Not really a good thing when you're trying to raise a business empire.
It's really interesting, the kinds of social commentaries they have these days. So, who's up for Macs?
