West End
West End is really the British equivalent of Broadway. It's where all the musicals come to play, the home of plays with music. Walk along any of the streets here and you're bound to catch a brightly lit billboard or two showcasing a musical. They have bargains here called half price tickets, though for half price you pretty much always get upper circle seats, which are really high up, but you will still be able to watch the musical proper. By the way, half price tickets here go for about 25 pounds. Which is 50 plus SGD.
The musical I watched this week was Avenue Q, and it was freaking hilarious. The best song of the lot was "The Internet is for Porn", hands down. Politically incorrect, refreshingly honest, and delivered with panache, it was a riot from start to end that had the audience laughing so hard they couldn't stop. After the performance, I overheard a conversation between two angmoh ladies at a traffic crossing. Lady 1 went you must watch Avenue Q, it was so funny. I loved the song "The internet is for porn." Lady 2 went "Oh no the internet is for information!" Oh well, as Trekkie Monster would say, "and after that, the internet is for..." Fill in the blanks. Haha.
Anyway here are some pictures I took around West End.
Dom and the Invisible Man. Put some money into his box on the ground and he will invite you over for a picture. Take that box away and you'll see a headless man running after you.
A street entertainer outside Covent Garden. The cool thing about London is they have really talented public entertainers, whether they be buskers, comedians or magicians. Their sense of humour is unrivalled, as is their control of the crowd and handling of comic timing.
I have to admit this was something very disturbing to see. A CCTV-mobile, or a car that goes around taking pictures of people on the streets. At first I thought the car was cute, until I saw that camera attached like a periscope on top of it. Beware, you are being watched.
Trafalgar Square again. Having nothing better to do, I decided to have some fun on Nelson's Column later. Guess which one is Nelson's Column. Clue: Its a column.
Another shot of Trafalgar Square. I experimented with the flash and I got this half lit orangey picture that conveyed the sense of evening's approach although the lighting was originally more similar to the previous picture's.
I had trouble clambering up here at first, because as you can see it is quite high. It is slightly higher than my height off the ground. The army gave me the skills to climb up here, but it certainly didn't prepare me for the fact I had to jump almost 2 metres onto hard concrete to get down from it. If you have a fear of heights, don't climb up here to say hi to Simba.
Alright! I am on Nelson's Column making an absolute ass of myself. Bloody awesome! Refer to the previous pictures to see how high I really am. In both senses of the word.

London is full of these colonial buildings that look like relics from the ancient past. These buildings are really the life and soul of London, and they define the city and make it different from just about every other city in the world. These two buildings featured are at the two ends of Charing Cross Road, one road you have to know if you're in London.
While trying to burn some time before Avenue Q started, I found this little shop selling manga and other anime collectables. It was just another shop till I found...
This. Omg a figurine of Squall Leonhart yo. In freaking London. I used to want a gunblade so so bad, to chop up my enemies with 8 consecutive thwacks and an 18 move finisher that deals 9999 dmg a hit. Die you stupid T-rex. And I can almost hear the song "Eyes on Me" playing already. Sorry I lost myself a little there, but I know one other friend of mine will know exactly what I'm talking about. Yo flen and fellow FFVIII fanatic, if I ever find the PC version of the game here, I'll buy if for you.
Stomp is still showing. I can't believe it.
But then again, so is Les Mis. And you'd better believe it. I must watch this musical. I've wanted to since I was an 11 year old kid and my English teacher introduced me to the song "Little People". I know all the songs by heart now, and it will always be my favourite musical, even though all I've watched of it are videos of old performances. Die also must watch it live.
