Brit boy's bday bash

I've been really happy this week, because I just celebrated my 23rd birthday and I can't thank everyone enough for all the things they've done for me this whole week. It's one thing to have a birthday celebration, it's another to have an extended one.

And to all the nice people who have wished me a happy birthday and given me presents and cards and parcels, I'd like to thank you all lots. Just want to let all you people know I really appreciate it. I would say it brings tears to my eyes but really, the only things that do are red onions from St Albans. It does make me feel like I overdosed on space cake though, which is never a bad thing.

4th March

Me having an early 23rd birthday Chinese buffet dinner. Thanks people for organising this. I enjoyed dinner a lot.

Hoho I can see who exactly gave me rabbit ears. Tsk.

Dom is wasted, and Jocelyn attempts to dump ice cream on his head.

Thanks girls for making me look tall. Awesome.

This is what happens when you're on a birthday high and you see a toilet seat sitting on a bench. The obvious question: Was it dirty? I don't know. I don't want to know.

5th March

Bak kut teh and fried rice night. We were all so busy eating and being captivated by good Chinese food we forgot to take pictures. Ultimate.

Visited the British Museum.

Dom with a slab of ancient stone.

Now that's a fist.
Me with 4 slabs of ancient stone.

Honestly, this photo looks kinda funny, because it looks like two ancient stone statues guarding a futuristic Star Trek corridor.

The Greek statue section. It shows a nude Aphrodite, because apparently the ancient Greeks loved fantasising about their gods. I took this statue because the rest were blatantly nude, and at least this one attempts to preserve some modesty. What to do, this blog has readers under 21, including copycat ones.

I think this used to be a temple of some kind?

Ancient pottery of the Greek world, in all shapes, colours and sizes.

The ancient Egypt section. As fascinating as it was, I didn't take many pictures because after awhile the mummies started weirding me out big time. It's one thing to read about them, it's another totally to see huge things wrapped in bandages with pictures of X-rayed skeletons beside them showing how it looks like inside the bandages. Not to mention the entire detailed description of the process of embalming and wrapping was as interesting as it was strange. Apparently they dried bodies for up to 60 days before wrapping them. And they took the brain out through the nose. Okay, too much information.

Did someone just donate one million pounds to the British Museum? I think the note was fake but I got a good laugh anyway.

7th March

Visited Camden Market. London has several huge markets like these, which have many stalls and even more people. They sell stuff ranging from clothes to antiques and everything in between.

The canal that divides the two halves of the market. The half across the canal sells more of the antiques and food, and has more of the really interesting shops. And of course, there is Starbucks here because Starbucks is everywhere.

The food section. If you're hungry, you can hover around here. Not only will you get free samples of food from overzealous Chinese food stall attendants, they will call you "Darling" and try their darned best to get your attention. Too bad I was in the mood for Indian food.

About to tuck into lunch. That small thing cost 4 pounds. Can you believe it.

What lunch looked like for me and Xinling.

The funkiest store in Camden market, Cyberdog. I couldn't take pictures inside because the bouncer wouldn't let me, but they have 2 skimpily clad dancers high up in cages dancing to electronic music, some really weird looking neon clothing that glows in light, and the whole place is illuminated in blue lighting. They also sell space food, like the food real astronauts eat. A real out of world experience.

A shisha pub, where people just sit and smoke in big groups.
Another section of the market. It's amazing how different sections of the market are. Like how there's a goth section, but I didn't take pictures of that because the people there were kinda scary.

The Horse Tunnel Market, which sells mainly antiques.

Inside the Horse Tunnel Market.

A typical shop in the Horse Tunnel Market, selling all sorts of odds and ends.

Me and Xinling in yet another section of this ridiculously huge market. This section sold mainly accesories, paintings and other artwork.

Random accessory shop, with many pretty things that I don't know how to appreciate. Hur.
Check out this apron stall. The one in the middle says "Free sausage". Explains the look on his face.
